THE BARGAIN is the first of two books in Ms. Templeton's "Medieval Warriors" which revolve around the Cawdor twins. It was originally published in 2006 and takes place during the reign of William the Conqueror. Set in Northumbria during the year 1069, it focuses on Saxon beauty Aleysia Cawdor, and Renaud de Wulf, the Norman knight she enters into a sensual bargain with. THE CONQUEST is book 2 and her brother Adelstan's story.Well, I was in the mood for something different and this story definitely fulfilled that role. I haven't read anything by this author (aka Julia Templeton) in a long time and was pleasantly surprised. For an erotic romance the story was well written and thoroughly engaging. While there are quite a number of sex scenes, they, together with the beautiful love story and solid plot, made this book a lot of fun to read. Both Aleysia and Renaud as well as most of the supporting characters were great, except of course for the villain who was a nasty piece of work. Overall it was a quick read though and at the end I immediately went and bought the next book. Just keep in mind that the story is oftentimes explicit, in and out of the bedroom. Remember it takes place during the Norman conquest of England, a violent time in history and the author doesn't shy away from that.
Heck, I just really enjoyed this book for some reason. It sucked me in from the very first page and never let go. Even the typos and the fact that it could use some editing didn't detract from that enjoyment. I'm no expert on history (especially during this time period) but I'm pretty sure some expressions used were probably not all accurate. In the end however, this book was still compelling enough for me to overlook any of those issues.

It is not your typical romance as some had said it had a lot of sex scenes but it was a good book. Shorter than I thought but still long that it is not a novella. I do recommend this book as it is the first that I have read from this author.
I loved everything about this book was one of the best books I’ve ever read I read it quite a while ago but I remember it so well it’s the kind of book you don’t forget this author never disappoints me very very good book well written good characters I loved loved this book
I know the reviews were all over the place for this book but I really enjoyed it. Love the story and the characters. I'm not historian so I can't say whether things, language, or building structures, were factual like some people do in reviewing "period" type books - I just know I enjoyed it.
What a beautiful love story set in medieval England. It is a page turner that kept me up until dawn. The story was well written and interesting. I didn't want to put the book down. The characters were good friends and I felt as if I was leaving them. Don't miss this story it is well worth it.
No Saxon wishes for their castle to be overtaken by Normans. But a bargain is struck and a Saxon becomes the mistress of a Norman knight in exchange for her brother's life. Enjoyable medieval romance with the ups and downs of a couple in love.
Ranaud, a Norman Knight, captured the lands of Breamere in the name of William. He found the former Saxon owners there and instead of killing the male heir, he was convinced to another bargain with his sister. Her, for the life of her brother.
This was my first read by this author and I am going to start the next one now. I enjoyed the storyline and was not bothered by any editing issues mentioned in other reviews. I usually read historical romance and love Keira Montclair, Emma Prince, Margaret Mallory and Paula Quinn novels. This was steamier but just as good as those IMHO. I liked all the characters and their stories.
